Morocco will be represented by a delegation of 17 athletes, comprising 12 men and 5 women, at the upcoming 19th World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19 to 27.
The men’s team features prominent figures such as Soufiane El Bakkali, the Olympic and world champion in the 3000m steeplechase, along with a strong roster including Mohammed Tindouft, Salaheddine Benyazid, Mohammed Mesaad (3000m steeplechase), Nabil Oussama, Abdelaati El Gues (800m), Anas Sabi, Abdellatif Sadiqui, Hicham Akenkam (1500m), and Hamza Sahli, Mohammed Reda El Aarabi, Mustapha Houdadi (marathon).
On the women’s side, the team includes Hanane Klouj, Roukia El Moukim, Fatima Zahra Kardadi (marathon), Assia Rizki (800m), and Noura Nadi (400m hurdles).
Morocco boasts a commendable track record at the World Athletics Championships, with 31 medals secured across its 18 previous appearances. This haul comprises 11 gold, 12 silver, and 8 bronze medals, achieved by 14 athletes.
The pinnacle of Moroccan achievement was witnessed in the Seville-1999 edition, marked by an impressive collection of 2 gold medals (Hicham El Guerrouj/1500m and Salah Hissou/5000m), 2 silver medals (Nezha Bidouane/400m hurdles and Zahra Ouaaziz/5000m), and a bronze medal (Ali Ezzine/3000m steeplechase).
