Variety has exclusively learned that the 75th Primetime Emmys’ suppliers have been informed that the ceremony will not air on September 18 for the first time in the event’s history.
The revelation was anticipated given the current Hollywood lockdown caused by the strike by writers and actors. But up until now, the telecast’s initial September 18 date has only served as a placeholder for the TV Academy and Fox.
The vendors, producers, and other event participants needed to start being informed now that their services will need to be pushed, though, as the event’s date is now less than two months away.
A specific air date has not yet been decided (and is not anticipated to be revealed until early August), but according to a previous Variety article, Fox wants to screen the program in January 2024, while the TV Academy had been lobbying for a November air date.
The Emmys would take place in January in the midst of the film award season and guild honors honoring television programs with a different eligibility period.
So far, there is still no end in sight to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, affecting Hollywood in many ways and putting a stop to several productions.
