A 17-year-old minor was killed and another was seriously injured on Thursday evening following an explosion caused by a small gas bottle during the Achura celebrations.

According to local authorities, a group of people, including several minors, gathered in a street on the road between Ben Ahmed and Settat late at night and set fire to tires, demonstrating irresponsible behaviour that endangered the safety of people and property.

During the incident, a small gas cylinder was thrown into the fire, causing a powerful explosion that seriously injured two minors. Unfortunately, one of them died from his injuries, while the other is currently in critical condition and under medical care at the Hassan II provincial hospital in Settat.

A judicial investigation has been opened by the authorities, under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, in order to shed light on the accident’s causes and to determine legal responsibilities.
