Israel is determined to continue working with Morocco to develop and strengthen bilateral relations at all levels, said Lior Haiat, the spokesman for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In an exclusive interview with Hespress, Haiat stressed the importance of raising the diplomatic missions between the two countries to the rank of embassies in order to consolidate the ties between the governments and the Moroccan and Israeli people.
“The good relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and Israel strengthen the opportunities for regional stability and peace in the Middle East,” Haiat said. “Some countries prioritize conflict and violence over dialogue and peace. We must cooperate to deal with Iranian threats in the region.”
Haiat was asked about Israel’s recent recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara. He said that the decision was the result of a “serious and broad dialogue” between the two countries.
“We believe that strengthening relations between Israel and Morocco, including relations between the two governments, as well as strengthening trade, tourism and investment, is of great importance,” Haiat said. “I am convinced that the good relations between Israel and Morocco will help strengthen regional stability and achieve prosperity and well-being for the peoples of the two countries.”
Haiat also addressed the dissatisfaction of Algeria and the Polisario Front with the recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara. He said that Israel is “reaching out to all countries to achieve peace in the region.”
“Personally, I believe that the developments and changes resulting from the peace agreements will lead to the normalization of relations with other countries in the Middle East region,” Haiat said. “This will contribute to a better future for all our peoples.”
The interview comes as Israel and Morocco are working to expand their cooperation in a number of areas, including security, trade, and tourism. In recent months, Israel has appointed a military attaché to Morocco and the two countries have signed a number of agreements on cooperation in the fields of agriculture, health, and water.
The strengthening of ties between Israel and Morocco is seen as a significant development in the Middle East. The two countries have had a long history of relations, and their renewed cooperation is seen as a positive step towards peace and stability in the region.
