Moroccan international Romain Saïss has signed his contract with Al-Sadd for two seasons.
Initially under contract until 2024 with Turkish club Becişiktaş, the 33-year-old defender has joined his new team in Qatar on an official basis, as part of the current summer mercato.
After several phases of negotiations between the Atlas Lions captain and the team, the latter announced the player’s successful transfer on Monday July 24 via its social networks.
Commenting on his choice to Foot Mercato, the international player cited professional and personal differences with the new coach of his former team, as well as family considerations, in addition to a number of factors that should enable him to reconcile his development at club level with his future plans with the Moroccan national team.
“If I made the choice to leave Becişiktaş, it has nothing to do with the club, the fans or my teammates. The only problem is with the coach [Şenol Güneş, editor’s note]. Since he arrived, there’s been an accumulation of things that led me to say I had to leave, because I couldn’t trust a person like that. it’s a considered choice. I weighed up the pros and cons,” said Romain Saïss.
