Rabat stressed before the Peace and Security Council of the African Union the need to adopt a concerted and applicable regional approach to address the threats to security posed by terrorist organisations active in the Sahel region.

Naser Bourita stressed the urgency for the AU Commission, AU Member States, and the international community to extend their support to countries in transition, reinforcing their efforts in peacebuilding and stability restoration within their borders.
He further maintained the importance of embracing holistic, multidimensional approaches seeking to reinforce peace, enhance security, and promote sustainable development in the Sahel.
In addition, Naser Bourita also highlighted the role played by Rabat in bringing to light the growing threats posed by terrorist groups like AL Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and drug trafficking networks in the Sahel- Saharan region.
Due to its broad experience and extensive knowledge of the situation, Morocco has managed in establishing itself as a reliable actor and interlocutor in the global battle against extremism and transnational organised crime.
Bourita hoped that the consultation led by the High-Level Independent Panel on Security and Development in the Sahel, headed by former Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou, would strengthen regional coordination efforts in tackling security and development issues challenging the Sahel.
As the situation in the Sahel becomes a source of growing concern, Morocco’s plea underscores a noble intention to intensify regional and international efforts to establish stability and support the development of the affected countries.
