Indian celebrities Shreya Ghoshal and Jennifer Winget have faced backlash from fans and critics for their involvement in Moroccan pop star Saad Lamjarred’s new song, “Gouli Mata” (Say When).

Jennifer Winget shared a clip from the music video on Instagram, mentioning everyone who took part in it except Lamjarred, in response to the attacks she received from her Indian audience and the criticism she received from her fans, who called her out for  dealing with an artist involved in a rape case.

Moroccans are familiar with the actress Jennifer Winget, who shined in her career in the hit series “Saraswatichandra” and “Hawas Maya” that aired on MBC Bollywood.

In the comments, her Moroccan fans encourage her to tag Lamjarred and while others called for unfollowing her, launching a hate campaign and criticizing the international talent.

Shriya Ghoshal, who performs with Lamjarred, similarly chose not to promote the piece or share any posts about it on her official accounts.

Lamjarred’s fans are relentlessly attacking the artists, claiming that their behavior is degrading to an artist as famous as the son of the actress Nezha Regragui and singer-songwriter Bachir Abdou completely forgetting the fact that he is a convicted rapist who is sentenced to six years.

Lamjarred, for his part, ignored the criticism and problems that resulted from his artistic work in the midst of controversy and continued to promote “Gouli Mata” through his official accounts and share the posts of his followers and their interactions with him.

In a statement to Hespress AR, a source close to Lamjarred said that the singer was disturbed by the two Indian artists’ behavior.

However, the issue was not given much weight, especially since the song was a huge success and won the approval of his fans after it received over 12 million views in less than a week and ranked first in the list of the most-watched works in Morocco and many other countries.

The same source stated that the song was ready since the beginning of last year, and it was filmed as a video clip in India last December before the verdict was pronounced in his famously controversial case.

The source of Hespress declined to comment on Lamjarred’s return to relaunch concerts and artistic evenings after more than seven months of hiatus, only noting that he would return to the scene shortly.
