King Mohammed VI assigned on Friday the chief of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fawzi Lakjaa president of Morocco’s committee in the joint 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
“This joint candidacy, which is a precedent in the history of football, will bear the title of linking Africa and Europe, between the north and south of the Mediterranean, and between the African continent, the Arab world and the Euro-Mediterranean space,” said the King in a statement.
The announcement for the Morocco joint bid was announced by King Mohammed VI in March.
President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa endorsed their joint bid with Morocco for the 2030 World Cup.
Morocco has attempted to secure World Cup hosting rights several times, but without success. In 2018, King Mohammed VI instructed the country to submit its candidacy for the 2030 event.
This bid “will also bring out the best in all of us – in effect, a combination of genius, creativity, experience, and means,” the King said.
Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, as well as Britain, have also announced their candidacy to host the 2030 World Cup.
