Moroccan Amal restaurant won the 2023 Champions of Change award. The award honors restaurant initiatives that extend hospitality to the community and significantly improve the food industry, according to 50 Best.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants organization presented the prize to the Amal restaurant on Thursday.

The award-winning restaurant owned and operated by Nora Belahcen helps women with hardships, mostly single mothers, take control of their lives and contribute to the national labor force.

“Nora Belahcen has a long-standing belief in the ability of food to unite people and transform lives. But she also emphasizes how crucial it is to view the people her organization assists not as victims but as hard working individuals”, said 50 Best.

Since 2013, Amal Center has offered assistance to women in need. The women received training in culinary arts and associated skills from the center.

The Moroccan Amal Center runs the restaurant, along with the Training Center, a catering service, and provides a three-hour cooking session for customers.

The Sign Language Café in Marrakech is the latest Amal center project. It employs deaf women and serves as a model for deaf-run businesses.

The Champions of Change award winners receive a financial contribution from 50 Best organization to support their initiatives.

The Amal organization contributes to the national female labor participation by enabling women to support themselves and their families and establish a secure position in society, according to 50 Best.

Othón Nolasco and Damián Diaz from the Unites States were also awarded Champions of Change of 2023, for founding the non-profit food security project, No Us Without You LA, during the epidemic.
