The members of the “Forum of Modernity and Democracy” (FMD) established a promising project to protect victims of violations of individual freedoms in Morocco, with a rekindled sense of youth and a strong desire to make a change.

In collaboration with the “European Endowment for Democracy,” the initiative, for which its creators adopted the name “Horus,” seeks to deliver legal protection to Moroccans who have experienced the violation of their personal liberties.

The project is characterized as an initiative put forth by the Forum of Modernity and Democracy to enshrine the principle of individual freedoms legally and socially in the nation by protecting those impacted by the violations affecting them as a realistic and effective approach to achieve this consecration and bring about the desired positive change.

The project’s foundational documents, which were unveiled on Saturday, May 27, 2023, in front of participants from the forum’s various branches, state that “the consecration of individual freedoms as a principle in the Moroccan constitution and the compatibility of Moroccan criminal law with this principle.”

The main objective of this community project, according to its organizers, is to “strengthen legal protection for victims of violations of individual freedoms in Morocco” by assembling a team of female attorneys, and trade unionists who are prepared to advocate on behalf of the victims of these violations in court and in the workplace.

According to the “Horus” project’s director, there will be 60 persons involved in the activities that are developed in the three regions of Rabat-Sale-Kenitra, Tangier-Al Hoceima-Tetouan, and Casablanca-Settat.

One of the most notable aspects of the project, which Hespress attended its first regional meeting in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region at the “Forum of Modernity and Democracy” headquarters, is helping the team address complaints related to violations of individual freedoms, by developing a digital platform that enables victims to lodge their complaints through it, as well as female team members who receive these complaints through the same platform.

The project will run for 24 months (beginning in April 2023) and will concentrate on three regions, with the potential to be generalized to other regions.
