The Tangier-Med port rated fourth globally in a comparative assessment of performance based on vessel time in port, trailing the Khalifa Port, Port Salalah, and Yangshan Port.

The recent report showing the position is called “The Container Port Performance Index” (CPPI), and it has also ranked Tangier Port fourth in its section of large ports by throughput.

According to the research, the fundamental purpose of developing the CPPI using existing empirical data was to offer a neutral baseline for evaluating and comparing the performance of container ports at various ports across time.

In Europe and in North Africa, the report showed that the Tangier-Mediterranean port ranked first.

As for the Agadir port, it ranked 252 globally, maintaining the same rank in the region of Europe and North Africa.

The CPPI seeks to standardize the identification of areas for development and gaps, which may ultimately benefit all parties concerned, including shipping firms, national governments, and customers.

“In the future, the CPPI is expected to undergo further refinement in subsequent editions, incorporating stakeholder feedback, advancements in data scope and quality,” said the same document, which means that in upcoming assessments, the ports will be ranked differently based on these additional characteristics.

Now fourth globally, the Tangier Med port complex had a great year in 2022, with all indicators positive, as it maintained its Mediterranean and African leadership, previously said the Port’s Managing Authority.

The port, which was named the 23 largest of its kind by “The State Of Port World” in 2022, handled a total tonnage of 107,822,662 tonnes in 2022, up 6% from 2021, suggesting that the volume of material processed in it is rapidly increasing.
