The U.S. Department of State has announced a increase in certain nonimmigrant visa application fees, in a move it said aims at supporting legitimate travel to the United States and strengthening the country’s economy.
Set to take effect on May 30, 2023, these fee adjustments were outlined in a recently published Final Rule by the Department.
Visitors applying for business or tourism visas (B1/B2s and BCCs), as well as individuals seeking non-petition based nonimmigrant visas such as students and exchange visitors, will now face an escalated fee of $185, up from the previous $160, as per the information relayed by the United States Embassy in Morocco.
Petition-based nonimmigrant visas for temporary workers (H, L, O, P, Q, and R categories) will also witness an increase from $190 to $205.
Individuals pursuing treaty trader, treaty investor, and specialty occupation (E category) visas will now be required to pay $315, a substantial surge from the previous fee of $205.
This fee adjustment marks the first increase for B1/B2 visas, which are the most commonly sought-after visas in Morocco, since 2012.
The U.S. Department of State underlines the necessity of these adjustments to cover the actual cost of providing nonimmigrant visa services, which are determined through a comprehensive study employing an Activity-Based Costing (ABC) methodology.
