French newspaper Liberation, disclosed on Friday, four months after the World Cup semi-final between France and Morocco, that neo-Nazis planned to attack Moroccan fans on December 14 following the match.
A coordinated Telegram effort in Paris gathered together some 40 ultra-right militants who were well-equipped to attack Moroccan supporters, according to official documents made public by the daily.
The far-right group reportedly readied and equipped themselves with brass knuckles and truncheons to take action after the match.
A message arrived on the encrypted mailbox of a private group of 49 people who dubbed themselves the “Training Crew” on Monday, December 12, two days before the match.
The following was included in the message: “France-Morocco on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Meet at the Pont-Cardinet metro stop at 8 o’clock. We’ll be in large numbers, we’ll spread out in several bars around the square. General mobilization to repel the Moroccan crowd and defend our flag.”
Forty persons were gathered for this operation, according to the materials the newspaper examined. However, the authorities stopped their raid that same night, December 14, by capturing a first member in a pub. Then, 38 more persons were taken into custody.
The group’s commander was a 24-year-old aristocratic ultra who enjoys bodybuilding and goes by the name “Zouaves Paris.”
The authorities have tracked the group’s members using technology and security cameras. The bar where they met was huge and located in the 17th arrondissement.
Every time a player of color touched the ball, the gang would react in a bigoted manner, as observed by others in the pub.
The police found in a backpack of the members of the group a balaclavas, tear gas Spray, metal belts, brass knuckles, telescoping batons, and smoke grenades were used as weapons. Additionally, the group’s members had mouth guards, protected genital shells, and shelled gloves.
A 22-year-old former soldier who is a member of the group had an image of France with the words “Fuck Morocco, Paris is ours, Division Martel” on it on his phone. These latter two phrases revealed the nature of this neo-Nazi organization.
The name of this far-right organization draws homage to Charles Martel, a military commander from France who led his troops to victory against the Muslim army in Poitiers.
On the night of this France-Morocco semifinal, sporadic violence perpetrated by militants with neo-Nazi branding occurred in several other locations.
