Oujda court sentences doctor to 3 years in prison for sexual harassement

In the early hours of Friday morning, the misdemeanor chamber of the Oujda First Instance Court sentenced a doctor working in a private clinic in the city to three years in prison for sexual harassment of a patient’s companion.

In addition to the prison term, the court also requested a MAD 10,000 fine and a cash settlement of MAD 50,000 for the plaintiff, and MAD 20,000 for her husband.

The trial went on until just past midnight on Thursday and Friday before being delayed for consideration. During this time, the court judge heard from all parties, including the accused, who rejected all of the allegations made against him.

After two postponements, the third session in the case featured tapes of security camera recordings taken inside the doctor’s office on the day of the incidents that were the subject of the complaint.

Following a hearing with the prosecutor, the doctor in question was taken into detention last Tuesday along with the complainant and her husband.

Charges against the detainee included “sexual harassment in case of recurrence, and psychological violence against a woman because of her gender.”

Hespress AR sources indicates that the jailed doctor has a long history of being accused of harassing women.

He received a disciplinary sanction from the National Authority for Doctors in 2021, which resulted in a year-long work suspension that lasted until last September.
