Celebrities on Twitter reacted to losing their checkmarks, as the social media platform began removing legacy checkmarks from notable accounts on Thursday.

The only way to get verified on the platform now is to subscribe to Twitter Blue for USD8 a month.

Several celebrities took to the platform to joke about losing the verification badge, including actor-director Ben Stiller, who tweeted “no blue check, still feel like me.”

Some celebrities, including novelist Stephen King who had been a vocal opponent of Musk’s new verification process, retained their blue checks despite not having subscribed to Twitter Blue.

King tweeted that his account was subscribed to Twitter Blue without his knowledge.

Elon Musk confirmed that he is personally paying for some celebrities’ subscriptions, including King, and basketball player Lebron James.
