FAR Group Africa is set to unveil the first military vehicle manufactured in Morocco during the upcoming Industry Meeting Days.
The fifth Industry Meeting is scheduled to take place on April 28 and 29, 2023, at the Tangier Hilton Haouara, where the FAR Group Africa will unveil the “African Lion,” the first military vehicle made in Morocco.
The event’s theme is “industrial investment, a catalyst for economic growth and employment,” according to information posted by the factory.
FAR Group is a Moroccan subsidiary located in Tangier, founded by Youssef Mandour, its current CEO, in 2018.
Mandour, an American Military University MRE graduate, served in the US Army before holding critical roles in the US military administration.
The CEO of the group highlighted that defense is a crucial component of national security, covering a range of elements like military defense, border security, and defense against terrorism and organized crime.
He noted that while some African countries have invested significantly in their armed forces and participated in regional and global peacekeeping missions, others are struggling with external threats because their militaries are underfunded and underequipped.
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Morocco’s imports of heavy weapons decreased by 20% in 2022, placing the country as the 29th-largest importer of guns worldwide.
The institute’s earlier report showed that Africa’s military budget in 2020 was only $41.2 billion, accounting for 2.5% of all expenditures. Despite a decline in arms shipments to the African continent of 40%, the Americas of 21%, and Asia of 7.5%, Algeria and Morocco remain among the nations that spend the most on arms in Africa, according to the same source.
