After a successful run at film festivals and landing the jury prize at the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM), The Ayouch production “The Blue Caftan ” by Maryam Touzani will finally hit Moroccan cinemas on June 7.
The film has already been played in cinemas in 30 countries, first of which was France, last March, becoming the most successful Moroccan movie played in French cinemas with 150000 entries, dethroning Nabil Ayouch’s “Razzia”.
“The Blue Caftan ” also did well in the Netherlands, Spain, Greece and Belgium. It will be released in the UK on May 5, and in Japan and Italy in June.
The film had it’s first ever MEA screening in November, as part of FIFM’s program, as the only Moroccan movie in the official competition.
At the occasion, Ayouch, the producer and Touzani’s husband, said that with this movie, barriers are falling because of the director’s message : that no love is impossible whenever and wherever.
This is a movie about conditional love, said Touzani explaining that she only makes movies about things that touch her, and have a meaning for her.
Touzani hopes that the audiences’ main take from her feature film is that love knows no boundaries.
The film was previously shortlisted in the 95th Oscars academy awards.
