Morocco’s government majority parties will hold an emergency meeting next week, in light of the continued rising prices for consumer goods and basic services.
In the midst of an inflationary crisis significantly affecting citizens’ purchasing power, the parties forming the ruling coalition will meet to address the issue, and try to form a common front in the face of popular criticism.
Last week, several parties showed signs suggesting that the government was distancing itself from the economic crisis at hand, but the Authenticity and Modernity party (PAM) called on both the the Party of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) and Istiqlal to hold the emergency meeting.
A well-informed source revealed to Hespress that this extended meeting will be held on April 10, in the presence of Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, president of the RNI, as well as Abdellatif Ouahbi, Minister of Justice and Secretary General of PAM, and Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water and Secretary General of the Istiqlal party.
The same source indicated that the meeting will be held at the RNI headquarters, and will see the participation of groups of the majority party in the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors.
The most important topic that will be discussed during this meeting will be the economic situation of the country in light of the rising prices and high cost of living and its impact on citizens.
It is expected that the parties will discuss mechanisms to support the government, and support measures it is taking in this difficult time.
