The organization for alternatives for children and youth has come out in solidarity of the 11-year-old rape victim, whose rapists were granted what many considered criminally lenient sentences.

According to the organization, “this verdict and inadequate sentence normalizes and encourages sexual crimes against children. We are asking for the maximum sanctions on the rapists to make an example for anyone contemplating to jeopardize the safety of children and practice such horrible crimes on them.”

Three men sexually assaulted a child over the course of months, which resulted in a pregnancy. The judge sentenced each of the defendants to two years in prison, after taking into account the criminals’ “socio-economic status.”

The organization and civil society are closely following the case in the hopes that the court will reconsider its verdict and impose a sentence that will restore the rights of the children.

The organization affirms its firm stance against all forms of violence against children, including sexual exploitation and rape.

“It is  a grave violation of a child’s rights,’’ stated the organization in a statement.

The organization highlighted  the seriousness of the rising number of these crimes, while urging lawmakers to act and appoint a lawyer to defend children’s rights, as well as to examine the laws immediately to protect children and society.

‘’We request the Ministry of National Education and Ministry of Solidarity, Social Inclusion and the Family intervenors to guarantee these children’s right to education and to make it easier for them to integrate into society,’’ concluded the organization.
