A man has set himself on fire today in Rabat, in front of a Ministry of Culture and Communication office building.
The man, who seemed to be in his forties, poured a combustible liquid on himself in the middle of the roadway before starting the fire.
Passers-by intervened and saved the man, using a fire canister to kill the flames.
“The individual who set himself on fire would have died if it weren’t for the involvement of bystanders and the quick extinguishing of the flames,” a witness to the incident told Hespress AR.
After setting his body on fire, the individual moved to the administrative door, where he laid on the ground while intermittently raising his forefinger to pray.
The man’s reasons for the attempted self-immolation is still unknown. It took the ambulance nearly 30 minutes before arriving at the scene.
