The Spanish Civil Guard foiled on Monday an attempt to smuggle approximately 16 kilograms of cocaine in a car traveling from Algeciras to Morocco.
Local media reported that the shipment, valued at more than 600,000 euros, was tightly hidden in a part of the exhaust of a car with a Belgian number plate, making it difficult to access without a thorough inspection.
The Civil Guard arrested the 55-year-old driver, a Moroccan national residing in Belgium, who was likely delivering the shipment to Morocco as part of an international trafficking network for cocaine.
The same sources mentioned that in February 2020, about 37 kilograms of the same drug were seized in the port of Ceuta, inside another car registered in Belgium, along with 4 kilograms that were seized less than two months ago.
An investigation is underway to determine the source of these shipments.
