Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, has passed a law that allows the government to strip citizenship or residency from individuals who have committed “acts of terror,” and deport them to the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip. This legislation will primarily apply to Palestinians.
The bill was passed with a vote of 94 to 10, receiving support from both the coalition government and opposition parties. The law was expedited through parliament due to a recent escalation of violence.
The law specifies that those who have been imprisoned for offenses that breach “trust to the State of Israel” and have received funding from the Palestinian Authority (PA) can have their citizenship or residency revoked and be deported to the occupied West Bank or Gaza Strip.
This law will affect both Palestinian citizens of Israel and permanent residents of occupied East Jerusalem, who typically refuse Israeli citizenship and instead receive residency IDs from Israel’s interior ministry
