Morocco is adamant to positioning itself as a significant military force in the region as proven by the recent acceleration of state military and defense deals its signed.

The House of Representatives adopted a draft law on defense and security materials and equipment, as well as weapons and ammunition, which opens way for investment in the military industry in the Kingdom, as the industry booms.

The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and the US aerospace manufacturer Boeing have recently established the basis for advanced industrial cooperation, through the signing of an industrial compensation agreement.

This agreement includes “strengthening the autonomy of the Royal Air Forces in meteorology, manufacturing and repair of various composite spare parts and superstructures, according to the most advanced aeronautical standards,” said the National Defense Administration in a statement.

In other words, Morocco will benefit from a technology transfer essential to become in the medium term a subcontractor and a power in the military industry.

With its most recent agreement with the American Boeing Company, the Kingdom will ensure its role in the region through the availability of a squadron of F-16 fighters and Apache aircraft, expected to enter service next year.

The Moroccan F-16 Block is undergoing modernization at the American Lockheed Company, and will be equipped with the latest technologies and advanced radars, in addition to air-to-surface missiles.

The Apaches are also subject to modifications that are compatible with their offensive missions.

The InfoDefensa outlet indicated that the signing of a partnership agreement with Boeing makes Morocco a “compelling” regional power that surpasses all neighboring countries, as it is planned to establish a defense industrial and technological base in the Kingdom.

The American Apache helicopters, which were requested by the Royal Air Force, are undergoing technical modifications.

The US Department of Defense announced that Inter-Coastal Electronics won a contract to supply a tactical simulation system for Apache helicopters at a value of $11.3 million.

The Kingdom was preparing to receive the first batch of American “AH-64E” Apache helicopters during the current year, in implementation of a contract signed between Boeing Aircraft Industry and the Royal Armed Forces, according to which the latter will acquire 24 Apache helicopters.

This is the first time that Morocco has acquired the AH-64E Apache warplanes, which are known to have a great ability to navigate in a range of different environments, and contain an accurate targeting system capable of providing information about targets, whether in the day, night or under sea.

The Apache remains the best attack helicopter ever since it was first launched in 1989 through its twin-engine, used by Egypt, Greece, Israel, the Netherlands, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

Regarding the details of the agreement that the aforementioned platform reported, it is expected to include military purchases estimated by the United States at a maximum of $4 billion, including 12 other devices with options, weapons, spare parts, materials and other related services.

The agreement also testifies to the desire of the two parties to strengthen the existing partnership through the implementation of joint strategic projects, while promoting the emergence of a defense industrial and technological base.

The signed agreement includes, among other things, the supply of spare parts worth $150 million to local manufacturers, and aims to contribute to creating job opportunities in the country accompanied by revitalizing its aviation sector.

The agreement also stipulates the strengthening of the Royal Moroccan Air Force in the fields of measurement, manufacture and repair of various spare parts and superstructures to reach the most advanced aviation standards, and the aim is to cooperate in research, development and transfer of technology through the qualification of Moroccan engineering offices.
