This year’s Forbes list of the 100 most powerful business women in the Middle East includes 104 women from 27 nationalities working in 27 different sectors. Five Moroccans made the cut.
Morocco’s famous business woman Salwa Idrissi Akhannouch, who chairs Aksal groupe ranked 17 on the list.
Aksal is the Moroccan leader of luxury retail.
Moroccan business woman Miriem Bensalah-Chaqroun from Mineral Waters Oulmes group ranked 19.
On the 33 spot is Rita Maria Zniber, CEO of Diana Holding.
Lamia Tazi, the president and CEO of the Sothema group was ranked 65th.
Finally, the fifth Moroccan on the list is the executive vice-president of Safari -Sofipar holding, Saïda Karim Lamrani, who is positioned 80th.
With 23 participations, the banking and financial services sector leads the list, followed by the diversified companies sector with 11 participations, the investment sector with 8 participations, the retail sector with 6 participations, and the health care sector with 5 participations.
The UAE topped the list with 15 businesswomen, followed by Egypt with 12, Saudi Arabia with 11, and Kuwait with 8, with Lebanon, Qatar, and the Sultanate of Oman each having 6 entries and Morocco having five.
Women in business lead some of the region’s largest corporations in the Middle East and North Africa, explained Forbes.
The influence of some of them exceeded the global level, as Hana Al Rostamani, CEO of the First Abu Dhabi Bank Group, and Raja Easa Al Gurg, Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group, were named to Forbes’ list of the 100 most powerful women in the world for 2022, to take their place among the world’s most influential women leaders.
The famous owner of the multinational makeup brand “Huda Beauty”, Huda Kattan ranked 30 on the list.
Forbes Middle East magazine considered the following factors when creating its ranking: the profile’s influence on the area and the markets it serves; their accomplishments and performance over the previous year; the number and scope of sustainability and CSR initiatives they have led; their designation; their company’s size in terms of revenue, assets, capitalization stock market; and the number of employees.
