Two tourists of Brazilian nationality were victims of a sexual assault and a rape Sunday night , in the gardens of the Eiffel tower in the 7th district of Paris, report French media.

The public prosecutor’s office in Paris opened an investigation, adds the press, which quotes a judicial source, specifying that the two tourists had spent the evening with two young men they met a few hours earlier before they were attacked by the two individuals.

In a state of shock, the two victims, crying and speaking with difficulty in French, were taken to a local police station, where one of the two said she had been raped, after the two men fled in a black car.

“The rape of a woman at the foot of the Eiffel Tower highlights once again the dangerousness of the site of the Champ-de-Mars,” lamented in a statement Rachida Dati, mayor of the 7th district.

Since 2020, the elected representative has been criticizing a “rise in delinquency,” an “endemic insecurity” and an “increase in trafficking and violence,” according to the media.
