Paco Rabanne, the famous perfume and fashion designer known for his unique and original designs, died at 88 at his home in France.
Puig, the parent business of his brands, announced his death, saying he “marked generations with his radical vision of fashion and his legacy will live on” after breaking the tragic news today.
Maison Paco Rabanne shared a heartfelt message on Twitter saying, “The House of Paco Rabanne wishes to honor our visionary designer and founder who passed away today at the age of 88. Among the most seminal fashion figures of the 20th century, his legacy will remain a constant source of inspiration.”
The French Spanish icon’s flamboyant creations typically used unorthodox materials such as metal, paper, and plastic, with his debut collection titled: “Manifesto: 12 unwearable dresses in contemporary materials”.
Rabanne was born into a military family in the Basque area of Spain, near San Sebastian. He grew up in Paris and studied architecture at the national school of fine arts.
Paco began his fashion career designing jewelry for Givenchy, Dior, and Balenciaga. Then, in 1966, he founded his own fashion brand, Paco Rabanne, which earned him international acclaim.
