Moroccan Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi will tackle the ongoing bar exam controversy in a statement today, said Government Spokesman Mustapha Baitas in a press briefing following the Government Council on Thursday.
In the coming hours, Ouahbi will speak on this recent scandal, which has taken over headlines for a week.
“I personally discussed the matter with the minister, a few moments ago. He personally told me that he had a clear position on the subject and that he would explain it in the coming hours,” said Baitas.
While the government was expected to react to this case, the spokesman preferred to dodge questions from journalists who asked for explanations on the Minister’s recent statements, which only seemed to exacerbate public opinion.
Moroccan law students and lawyers spoke out against this year’s bar exam results, as the succeeding list of candidates carried familiar names, later linked to politicians, powerful judicial officials and other prominent figures in Moroccan society, starting with Ouahbi himself.
Some internet users have even alleged that the exam was rigged, with accusations of corruption, nepotism and favoritism taking the public by storm.
While the controversy continues, the Ministry of Justice announced on Wednesday, the dates and schedule for the oral exam portion of the bar.
The Ministry decided to organize oral exams on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th of March, provided that these exams will be held at the headquarters of the Higher Judicial Institute in Rabat.
