Focusing on the clothing and jewelry worn by Jewish and Muslim women in Morocco in the past, the exhibition “Moroccan Women – Between Ethics and Aesthetics” embarked at the Jewish Museum of Belgium in Brussels.
The display of art includes items from the 16th century to the present, such as apparel, jewelry, talismans, ornaments, and garments. It also includes archival documents, pictures, sketches, and paintings by orientalist artists.
Local Moroccans and young Belgians made sure to visit this December vernissage, said The Brussels Times.
Paul Dahan, the owner of all of the art pieces displayed explained how the exhibition shows the fascination and interest in knowing more about a beautiful multicultural phenomenon that was shared by Jews and Muslims alike in Morocco.
“This culture cannot be forgotten by people with a Moroccan background living in Brussels and elsewhere,” said Dahan to The Brussels Times.
The exhibition, which displays the variety of traditional clothing and jewelry worn by Muslim and Jewish women, is a good example of Jewish and Moroccan cooperation and their shared commitment to preserving Moroccan culture. It will remain in the museum until April 30, 2023.
