President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa said investigations are ongoing regarding the recent Qatar FIFA World Cup ticket sales.
“A members committee affiliated with the Federation has been formed to investigate the incident,” he said in a press conference on Tuesday.
The President said the findings of the investigation will be revealed during the next Federation board meeting, set to take place on January 16.
This decision came after thousands of Moroccans traveled to Qatar to watch Morocco’s face-off against France and found themselves stranded in 48 hours long queues, with the hope of landing one of the 13,000 free tickets offered by Morocco’s football federation.
Driven by the promise of a free ticket for the already sold-off semi-finals game, fans did not find any left.
The international sporting event kicked off on November 20 and marked its end on December 18.
The Moroccan national football team reached the semi-finals for the first time in its history, making it the first Arab and African country to achieve such a historic success.
Morocco’s Atlas Lions were able to defeat strong opponents, namely Belgium (2-0), Canada (2-1), Spain on penalties (3-0), and Portugal (1-0).
Successive victories made the national team’s adventure in Qatar last longer than ever expected, before their defeat against France (0-2).
