Sixteen people were killed and 1,644 others were injured, including 59 seriously, in 1,294 road accidents that took place in urban areas from December 12 to 18, National Police (DGSN) said on Wednesday.

These accidents were mainly due to non-respect of priority, excessive speeding, non-control of vehicles and pedestrian and driver errors, the source pointed out in a statement on Wednesday.

A total of 33,620 traffic tickets were issued by the police during the same week.

The sum of fines paid by road traffic violators reached MAD 5,905,700, the statement said.
