American journalist unexpectedly dies at Argentina-Netherlands World Cup game
Saturday 10 December 2022 - 12:30

American journalist Grant Wahl passed away at the age of 48 while covering the World Cup match between Argentina and the Netherlands on Saturday.

According to AP news, U.S. media seated near him said Grant collapsed in his seat in the media tribune at Lusail Iconic Stadium during extra time, and reporters adjacent to him called for assistance.

Emergency services workers quickly responded but Grant unfortunately passed.

Grant recently made headlines when he revealed that he had been detained and briefly refused entry to a World Cup match because he was wearing a rainbow t-shirt in support of LGBTQ rights.

Grant’s brother Eric Wahl, took to social media to wonder if there is something more to Grant’s
untimely death, saying his brother “was brave and healthy.”
