Luis Enrique is relieved of his duties as the Spanish national team coach, Spanish Football Federation reported
The Spanish Football Federation “RFEF” stated that “the Federation energetically wishes Luis Enrique and his team the best of luck in their future professional projects.”
The former Barcelona coach and Real Madrid midfielder has left his managerial role after three years in charge of Spain, following his World Cup exit on Tuesday.
“La Roja” were beaten by Morocco on penalties in their round of 16 clash against their African neighbors, the last drop in a series of disappointing performances in Qatar with just one win in the whole tournament.
Enrique, 52, had taken his nation to the semi-finals of the Euro 2020, although his World Cup campaign in Qatar did not live up to expectations, finishing second in Group E after a shock defeat against Japan.
“The coach earns the love and admiration of his collaborators in the national team and of the entire Federation, which will always be his home.”
