The very first operation to pay for citizens’ medical costs that were benefiting from the “RAMED” medical assistance system started on Thursday, December 1st, by taking care of a patient who would undergo heart surgery.
The citizen, whose medical costs were paid, will have heart surgery in a private facility in Casablanca at a cost of MAD 130,000, according to Mustapha Baitas, the government’s official spokesperson, who made the announcement during the weekly press conference.
Baitas stated that the National Social Security Fund’s administration had agreed to a request for a prior deduction of the patient’s medical cost.
He will now undergo the operation with peace of mind, said the government’s spokesperson.
As of December 1st, 11 million Moroccan citizens who previously received medical aid through the “RAMED” system have been switched over to the mandatory health insurance system under the framework of the social security program, which also includes retirement and family allowances.
For the benefit of the National Social Security Fund, which is in charge of running the operation, the Moroccan government is responsible for paying the contributions of citizens who formerly benefited from the “Ramed” system, which has now been permanently abolished.
This will enable them to receive basic medical care in both public and private hospitals.
Five legislations related to this were reviewed at the government council meeting held on Thursday.
Baitas said that these legislations create a rift in the health sector between the past and the future developments that it would experience.
