Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on Monday that Apple is pressuring Twitter on content moderation demands.
Elon Musk has accused Apple of threatening to block his company, Twitter, from its app store, without further explanations.
Musk lashed out in a series of tweets where he claims the tech giant has stopped advertising the app on its store.
Apple did not confirm the claim, though the company usually does enforce demands over content moderation and has removed apps such as Parler or Gab.
“Apple has mostly stopped advertising on Twitter. Do they hate free speech in America?” asked Musk, who acquired Twitter for $44bn last month.
The CEO tagged Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook’s account later in another tweet, asking, “What’s going on here?”
Apple was the top advertiser on Twitter in the first quarter of 2022, spending $48m and accounting for more than 4% of total revenue for the period according to a Washington Post report, citing an internal Twitter document.
Ben Bajarin, the head of consumer technologies at research firm Creative Strategies, said “Musk may be reading too much into a regular process Apple goes through for app reviews.”
