The Australian star Chris Hemsworth known for playing Marvel’s ‘Thor’ for the past couple of years announced that he will be taking a pause from acting due to his genetic predisposition for Alzheimer.
In an interview with Vanity magazine, the actor explained that he underwent numerous genetic tests which resulted in discovering that he carries what he called ‘his biggest fear’: Alzheimer.
Variety reported that he carries two copies of the gene APOE4, one from his mother, and the other from his father, which studies have linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
Although this isn’t considered a definite diagnosis of Alzheimer, because one in four people carry a single copy of the gene, the 39 years old actor is highly concerned because of the double presence of the gene, placing him at a higher risk of actually being impacted by the condition.
Hemsworth explained how he will be taking steps to improve the quality of his life, during this break off acting that he will be taking.
The actor’s grandfather has been dealing with the condition for years now, “I’m not sure he actually remembers much anymore and he slips in and out of Dutch, which is his original language, so he’ll be talking Dutch and English, and then a mash-up and then maybe some other new words as well,” said Chris.
