The Rabat Court of Appeal upheld the initial judgment issued against former politician and lawyer Mohammed Ziane today, and decided to arrest of the defendant immediately.
Informed sources reported that the Court of Appeal issued a ruling upholding the initial judgment of 3 years imprisonment and a fine of MAD 5,000 for a civil right claim, and a symbolic MAD 1 for the state.
Informed sources told Hespress AR that Ziane has been sent to the Arjat Prison.
The ruling was based on Article 431, which states that “in the event of a custodial criminal penalty, the Criminal Chamber may order the immediate arrest of the convict who came freely to the session, and the order issued against him is executed despite every appeal.
Among the charges Ziane was pursued for include “sexual harassment, insulting organized bodies, broadcasting false allegations and facts against a woman because of her gender, extortion and threats,” and other charges.
Ziane is a Moroccan politician and lawyer. He has served as the National Coordinator of the Moroccan Liberal Party, a political formation he founded in 2002.
He was previously an MP for the Constitutional Party in the 1980s but left that party in 1995.
