Morocco: A bug causes temporary cessation of bank card operations
Thursday 17 November 2022 - 11:30

A computer failure of the national Switch caused, on Wednesday between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the payment terminals and merchant websites, the temporary cessation of bank card operations across Morocco.

According to the Centre Monétique Interbancaire (CMI), this is a technical problem at the level of HPS Switch, which allows the routing of all Moroccan bank card transactions.

The HPS Switch teams managed to solve the problem before the busy hour in the retail stores.

Because of this bug, no withdrawal or payment operations could be carried out on the electronic payment terminals.

HPS Switch is the entity authorized to centralize, for the benefit of the domestic banking sector, the processing of all interbank electronic payment transactions at the national level.
