A great selection of national and international artists greeted the red carpet on the third day of the Marrakech international film festival.

Kaoutar Bouderraja, a Moroccan feminist journalist, actress, and TV host, told Hespress EN that she’s proud for being invited yet again to this prestigious event.

Moroccan pride shows truly through this festival, said Kaoutar, “It makes us all so proud.”

Yasmine Benkirane whose film “Queens” previously starred in the Cannes film festival and has now joined FIFM, told Hespress EN that Moroccan female filmmakers should “do, do and do”, despite not having proper funding, she encourages them to experiment and make films even with telephones.

On what Morocco could do to encourage female filmmakers, she said that institutions should encourage cinema and finance it.

French Moroccan director Kamal Hachkar expressed his joy about being in FIFM’s 19 edition, especially after the pandemic.

He said he was looking forward to seeing interesting, moving, and emotional movies on this occasion.

“We are in this intimate place seeing the world through cinema.”

Fatima Ezzahra El Jouhari, a Moroccan actress most known for her role in Nouredine Lakhmari’s “Burnout”, said that as an actress, she is always hungry for challenging roles.

She is currently working on a series with Apple TV which she finds great pride in, despite having a small role, Fatima Ezzahra happily shared that she is participating in “Invasion”.

Finally, the Egyptian director whose film was projected on the festival’s third night, said that he lived in Casablanca for a while which is why he fell in love with that city.

“This is my second home,” has said the director to Hespress EN on being in Morocco now.

He previously wanted to film “Boy from heaven” in Morocco but that was impossible due to the strict Covid-19 restrictions and safety measures, which is why he took the production to Turkey, Istanbul, instead.

He hopes that the Moroccan audience enjoys his latest movie by seeing the beauty in it and also the ugliness.

The director says that he hopes to live in Morocco one day, “There is no place like Morocco.”
