The Nador Med West project will compete with Tangier Med, following its ideal geostrategy plan, said the international report issued by Jan De Nul Group.
The future port is located between Europe and Africa, with the Kingdom having many advantages, both as a producing country and as a logistics center, added the same source.
The project is located on the western side of the Cap des Trois Fourches, close to the main east-west shipping routes for the transport of containers and oil and gas products throughout the Mediterranean, further specified the same source.
Additionally, the project consists of a new deep-water port with significant capacity to develop an energy hub in terms of processing, filling and storage of hydrocarbons and derivative products for container transshipment and bulk product handling, and an integrated platform/free trade zone open to well-known investors aimed at hosting globally active companies.
The company does dredging work there. Since 2016, it has dredged 25 million cubic meters, which is 88% of the total dredging range.
The Luxembourg-based Group confirmed that it still has the last finishing and cleaning work to do, adding that, “the final delivery date for this port contract has been set at the end of June 2024.”
In its first phase, the project consists of a main barrier of about 4,200 meters in length, and a secondary port barrier of about 1,200 meters in length, with a container handling station with a berth of 1520 meters and a water depth of 18 meters, and flat lands extending over 76 hectares, with the possibility of building another berth for containers, added the same source.
The port will also include a fuel station with three petroleum product centers with a depth of 20 meters, a coal station with a 360-meter-long berth and a depth of 20 meters, a station for different activities, a berth for trucks, and a berth for services.
In terms of annual capacity, this infrastructure will allow for the processing of 3 million 20-foot containers, with the potential for an additional 2 million containers, as well as 25 million tons of fuel, 7 million tons of coal, and 3 million tons of various goods, added the Group.
Industrial, logistical, and service zones will be developed in the free zone adjacent to the port, as well as in the development zone designated to contain industrial units, according to the same source.
