Morocco has purchased 150 WanderB and ThunderB VTOL drones, manufactured by the Israeli company BlueBird, reported Infodron on September 19.
The Kingdom is considering purchasing additional types of Israeli-made UAS, with some of these drones being manufactured in Morocco for both ISR and armed missions, added the same source.
The WanderB is distinguished by its ability to operate anywhere without a runway and to take off and land vertically. It is also known for its low noise level due to the use of electric motors, further stated the same source.
“The drone has a maximum takeoff weight of 13 kilos, of which five correspond to the batteries and one and a half to the payload, which can be day or night cameras, and can operate for up to two and a half hours at distances of up to 50 kilometers,” explained Infodron.
It has a wingspan of three meters and a length of nearly 1,000 meters, and it can fly in winds ranging from 32 to 65 knots, added the same source.
“TheThunderB is a more complete drone, with a range of up to 150 kilometers and a tracking antenna that can last more than 12 hours. It has a maximum takeoff weight of 35 kilos and can fly in inclement weather,” specified the same source.
The Israeli-Moroccan military cooperation constitutes the fruit of the strengthened diplomatic ties since December 2020, with both countries reaching agreements in different sectors.
Recently, Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the South Zone, accompanied by a large military delegation took part in the first International Conference on Defense Innovation (CII).
The conference took place from September 12 to 15 September in Israel’s Tel Aviv, said a statement from the General Staff of the FAR.
