The National Social Security Fund (CNSS) Board of Directors adopted on Friday the proposal to increase retirement pensions by 5%.

The meeting, held in Casablanca, was chaired by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, as part of the Board session for June 2022.

The session included the presentation of the activity report and accounts of the 2021’s fund, the reassessment of retirement pensions’ levels and the devaluation of the threshold of the minimum number of days worked to qualify for a pension.

“The Board of Directors of the CNSS decided to increase pensions by 5% and a minimum of MAD 100, retroactive to January 1, 2020, as the board had previously decided since 2019,” announced Houcine El Yamani, a member of the board of directors.

The proposal was approved by a majority of the Board members on July 17, 2019 and was scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2020, but was never implemented.

This decision will cost the National Social Security Fund an amount of 748 million dirhams, according to simulations they carried out, which means that in a period of 10 years, the additional cost estimated will reach 6,23 billion dirhams and will increase to 8,25 billion dirhams in a period of 60 years.

Meanwhile, the meeting discussed as well the decision to lower the threshold of the minimum days contributed to claim a pension from 3,240 to 1,320 days, with the possibility for those who have not reached the new 1,320 day threshold to recover their employee contributions as well as the employer’s share.

Regarding the Mandatory Health Insurance (AMO) scheme, Fettah Alaoui embraced the 15% increase in the number of beneficiaries of AMO in 2021, noting that it reached an average of 2.9 million insured persons with outstanding claims per month.
