The Moroccan Ministry of Education revealed its plans in approving a unified contract for private schools to ensure a transparent and positive relationship between institutions and families.

The Ministry stated that the details and content of the contractual document will be announced during the current school year. The contract will help to maintain a solid learning path, through specific and clear clauses that frame private institutions’ activities.

Slimane El-Korchi, assistant director in charge of the private education at the Ministry, told Hespress AR that the preparation of this contractual document has progressed.

Discussions in the matter lasted about a year, and ministry officials, professional associations and associations of parents and guardians of students participated in its conception.

“The urgent need for the contract emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the emergence of tension between families and institutions, as it turned out that there is a lack of common, state-backed norms regulating the relationship,” stated the same source.

The role of the Ministry “is limited to administrative and educational supervision (law 06.00),” stressed the official, adding that this unified contract “will bring about a fundamental change in what is currently being done in the field of private education.”

The private education sector in Morocco has experienced an important transformation, as the number of private schools and beneficiaries increased.

This transformation “was not accompanied by a qualitative one because the provisions of the law regulating private education dates back to 20 years ago, which is an important time in the lives of states and societies, during which many transformations occurred,” explained El-Korchi.
