Sinopharm vaccine effectiveness varies from the different age groups, said a study conducted in Morocco by the peer-reviewed journal BMC Public Health.
“Effectiveness of the Sinopharm vaccine was consistent with phase III clinical trial results,” further stated the study.
The study findings showed that two shots of the vaccine product were highly protective against COVID-19-associated serious or critical hospitalization in working-age adults under real-world conditions and moderately effective in older adults.
Additionally, the booster shot was linked to complete protection, regardless of age, although only a small proportion of subjects received the third or fourth shot nationwide.
The study was based on the use of official surveillance, testing, and vaccination data during the vaccine’s first five months of use.
The public health surveillance dataset made available for this study contained clinical data on the severity of COVID-19-related hospitalization in Morocco, added the same source.
The study was held in the period from February 1 to June 30, aiming to evaluate Sinopharm’s vaccine effectiveness against serious or critical COVID-19-associated hospitalization among Morocco residents aged 18–99.
They were also tested by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for SARS-CoV-2 infection, added the same source.
As of Wednesday, a total of 24.8 million people received their first Covid-19 vaccine shot, while 23.4 million people were fully inoculated with the third shot, and 37.817 received the fourth booster shot, according to the Health ministry’s latest tally.
