The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has reached a contract with the Former coach of Wydad Casablanca Walid Regragui to coach the national team ahead of the upcoming World Cup, according to Hesport sources.
The contract runs until 2025, further stated the same source.
The FIFA Qatar World Cup 2022 will kick off on Sunday, November 20 at 19:00, announced the Federation in a recent press release.
Morocco was drawn together with Group F countries, alongside Belgium, Canada, and Croatia.
Additionally, Regragui has begun reaching out to some of the national team players a few days ago, along with assistant coach Rachid Benmahmoud.
The Federation is also studying the possibility of contracting with the former international player Gharib Amzine, assistant coach of the ES Troyes AC team to work as the second assistant coach of the national team, according to Hesport sources.
It is expected that the Federation will officially announce the appointment of Regragui as coach of the national team in the upcoming days, along with his assistant staff and the rest of the accompanying crews.
On August 11, the Moroccan Federation announced the end of Vahid Halilhodzic’s career with the national team by mutual consent.
“Given the differences and divergent visions between the FRMF and the coach on the best way to prepare the national football team for the upcoming 2022 Qatar World Cup, the two parties decided to terminate the contract,” said the Federation in the press release.
“The FRMF expressed its gratitude for the French-Bosnian coach during his career with the national team, also for the qualification for the 2022 Qatar World Cup,” added the same source.
