Jet skis and recreational boats are now the new mediums for both drug and migrant smugglers for trafficking operations, as they take advantage of the summer season in Morocco.

Local authorities and the Moroccan Royal Navy are tightening control over international drug trafficking and irregular migration gangs, who are now resorting to rubber boats leading them to recreational boats and fast jet skies for camouflage.

The Naval Service of the Spanish Civil Guard arrested two individuals in Ceuta on Wednesday, after their recreational boat “Phantom” sank, which was carrying 5 irregular migrants.

The migrants were rescued and transferred to the Naval Services base in the enclave’s port.

Two days earlier, the Spanish Civil Guard in Ceuta intercepted three Moroccan youths on a water bike, who told the court that they had agreed to rent it and use it to enter the city irregulary.

Water-bikes and “Phantom” recreational boats have become a real nightmare for the marine service of the enclave Civil Guard, as it stands helpless in front of them because of their speed and ability to camouflage, passing as recreational, private leisure mediums.

Their possession has become very common, which portends the rise of such operations in coming years.
