The National Airports Office (ONDA) managed to end the social tensions prevailing among air traffic controllers at the Kingdom’s airports during the past few days.
The office agreed on reaching a new agreement with air traffic controllers and it handed out the agreed-upon grant in October 2019.
The agreement stipulates the recognition of the air traffic controller’s privacy as well as the new grant payment.
The implementation of the agreement will begin no later than September 30, noting that the delay in its application was mainly due to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
ONDA’s move came after those air traffic controllers were planning to strike on August 3 for 15 days, said the office in a recent press release.
“The strike took place for only 35 minutes across Morocco’s airports before that ONDA intervened and managed to hold talks with those airport workers,” said the Moroccan air traffic controllers on their official Facebook page.
A source from within ONDA told Hespress EN that negotiations began earlier this month with those airport workers in order to avoid this action.
Euro control recently wrote on Twitter, “the industrial action will impact all traffic from and to Morocco, plus overflights.”
“Those airport workers praised their solid commitment to stand for their needs, in a move to preserve their rights and dignity,” according to the same Facebook post.
