French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced Morocco agreed to take in Hassan Iquioussen, a Moroccan-born preacher whose hate speech led to a decision to expel him from France.

Darmanin said Iquioussen is accused of having launched calls for hatred and violence against the Jewish community in France and spreading hate speech against ‘French values.”

Quioussen, 57 and a father of five, is very active on social media, with a YouTube channel with 169,000 subscribers and a Facebook page with 42,000 followers.

Darmanin stated that Morocco issued a “consular pass” on Iquioussen’s expulsion from France earlier on Monday.

The French minister thanked Morocco for issuing the statement, noting that if the police or the gendarmerie apprehends Iquioussen, he will be expelled from French territory and unable to return.

On Thursday, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejected a request submitted by Iquioussen to suspend the expulsion order which invoked the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights on the prohibition of torture and inhuman and degrading treatment, the right to respect for private and family life, freedom of thought, conscience and religion or freedom of expression.

The ECHR said the expulsion would be maintained “because of the seriousness of the threat to public order, the minister considered that there had not been a disproportionate attack on his right to family life.”

Quioussen does not have French nationality, which he said he had given up on at the age of 16 under his father’s influence and then tried in vain to recover.
