Ceuta authorities agreed Wednesday to take in 92 Moroccan minors as part of a model to guarantee the reception of unaccompanied minors in emergency situations.
Social Rights and the autonomous governments have closed the agreement to begin its execution, according to the Spanish news agency EFE.
The Spanish ministry of social rights announced setting a maximum number of unaccompanied foreign minors that Ceuta has the capacity to receive and care for. The total came to 132.
The Spanish government and Spanish communities have agreed on transferring 400 unaccompanied foreign minors from the Canary Islands and Ceuta to the Peninsula this year.
374 will be added but not until 2023 due to the saturation of the centers of the archipelago and the autonomous city of Ceuta.
This is because Ceuta can protect 88 migrant children alone under suitable conditions, with the possibility of a temporary expansion of up to 50% in particular situations.
20 million Euros will be distributed this year to finance reception places for unaccompanied foreign minors. The minors will undergo an examination to continue their registration at the reception centers.
Mabel Deu, a member of Ceuta’s government has reiterated the need to have a stable and definitive mechanism for the referral of minors to deal with extraordinary circumstances, such as those experienced by the Canary Islands and more recently by the autonomous city.
