Firefighters in Taounat, near Fes and Meknes, succeeded on Wednesday afternoon in taming the fires that erupted earlier this week, as more efforts are needed to fully control the blaze.
The Firefighting services are challenged by the rapid spread of fire due to the strong winds and high temperatures prevailing in the region, in addition to the high flammability of the forest, local sources of the province of Taounate told state-run agency MAP.
Mobilization is continuing with a view to fully control the fire which, until now, has destroyed nearly 47 hectares of forest composed mainly of pine trees, eucalyptus, and oaks.
One person was killed and another was injured on Monday as they volunteered alongside teams responding to the blaze.
The Moroccan government on Friday released emergency aid of nearly 30 million euros ($31 million) to help victims of forest fires and reduce their impact on agricultural activity and the environment.
Forest fires destroyed more than 10,500 hectares in the north of the kingdom in mid-July.
Morocco, which is experiencing severe drought, has been hit by heat waves over the past month.
At least Twenty villages, some in remote areas, had been evacuated.
Last year, a total of 2,782 hectares of Moroccan forest were destroyed by 285 fires that broke out between January and September, notably in the mountainous Rif region.
Scientists say human-induced climate change is amplifying extreme weather, with global warming leading to increased risks of heatwaves, drought, and forest fires.
