Authorities on Tuesday continued to fight off the massive fires in the Moulay Absalam center, which have been ravaging the area since Monday and displaced dozens of families.

The fire ravaged multiple residential houses, where firefighting teams are working to surround the area of the fire that ravaged vast hectares of forested land.

The intervention teams, consisting of civil protection, water, and forest units, royal gendarmerie, auxiliary forces and local authorities, as well as members of the national recovery and volunteers from the population, were mobilized to rescue those affected by the fires, especially in the Tazrout community.

4 Royal Air Force “Canader” planes, and Royal Gendarmerie helicopters are currently trying to contain the fires that have spread in large areas of the Larache region.

The first efforts of the intervention teams, which were focused on ensuring the safety of the residents of the districts adjacent to the areas directly affected by the fires, enabled the transfer of 500 families from their homes from 10 districts, and 36 families from a close roundabout.

The recorded fire was cordoned off at the local adjacent Menzla forest, and it destroyed about 30 hectares of forest cover.

The firefighting teams were also able to contain 90% of the fire that erupted near the “Rmel” roundabout in the Zaaroura community, while efforts are continuing to control four active fire spots in the Tazourt and Bani Arous communities.
